The New York Philharmonic partnering with the Harlem community to offer a free music and wellness series this spring at Abyssinian Baptist Church — designed to help people reset, connect, and breathe.

As part of our Take A Breath series, these two events blend live performances by Philharmonic musicians with guided mindfulness and mental health practices from experts - no experience (with music or meditation) needed. It’s accessible, restorative, and built for the community. Following each session, attendees can participate in instrument try-out sessions with New York Philharmonic Teaching Artists.

Love and Kindness
Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

An exploration of the characteristics of love and what connects us to each other; featuring vocalist Asha Lindsey of the Unsung Collective and Philharmonic Associate Principal Clarinet Benjamin Adler, violinist Yulia Ziskel, Associate Principal Viola Rebecca Young, and Associate Principal Bass Max Zeugner.

Mindfulness and Deep Listening
Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
An exploration of the wellness benefits of music; featuring Philharmonic violinists Kuan Cheng and Sharon Yamada, violist Vivek Kamath, and cellist Sumire Kudo.
Both of the events — presented in collaboration with Northwell Health and The Abyssinian Baptist Church — will be facilitated by Oneika Mays, mindfulness expert and author, and Sylvia Földes-Berman, supervisor of creative arts therapy at Northwell Health. The events are free, no tickets required.
