The Governor's Youth Ice Hockey Programs at Riverbank State Park offer the most affordable introduction to and training in recreational ice hockey in New York City. In 2006-2007, registration fees were under $200 for the entire winter season from November through March. All required hockey equipment is provided to participants on loan. This greatly lowers the cost of entering what can be a very expensive sport. This is a great advantage for parents whose children really want to play ice hockey because their siblings or friends do, but are unsure of how long their children will continue.
There are 3 practice sessions a week of 1 hour to 1 hour and half hours in duration for mites, squirts, pee wees and bantams. Games are played on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Coaches provide structured training and drills for all levels of ability in both recreational and competitive hockey. Coaches encourage individual development, teamwork and foster a natural, healthy competitive spirit that comes from within. Fun and excitement is always a part of of all that is done.
Finally, all are welcome! We have a diverse group of participating parents and children who love the sport. The games are exciting for the parents as well as the children. Try out one season of ice hockey at Riverbank State Park to see if your child loves to move and fly over the ice. Use the Registration drop down menu above to review the different program descriptions by the birth year of your child.
The pre-registration period is now open. Pre- register now for the The Governor's Youth Ice Hockey Programs and the Mini-Mite and Youth Hockey Prep Program
