The Studio Museum in Harlem is an African American–focused art museum in Manhattan, located at 144 West 125th Street in Harlem. Founded in 1968, it collects, preserves, and interprets art by African Americans, the African diaspora, and artists from across Africa, with an exhibitions program, educational and public programming, and a large permanent collection. The museum has long been recognized for championing artists of African descent, including through its Artist-in-Residence program (which supports emerging artists and culminates in public presentations), and it reopened in a new building in the mid-2020s after operating for many years in earlier spaces.
