EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care Hosts Free Cell Phone Literacy Workshop for Harlem Seniors

Posted October 8, 2013

EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care in Harlem held its first “Cell Phone Literacy for Older Adults” workshop, which will be a free monthly program, on September 12. About 15 Harlem seniors learned how to use their cell phones to stay in touch with friends and family, as well as get help in an emergency.

“Knowing how to use a cell phone helps a person take care of their physical and emotional wellbeing. Many community members wanted to learn how to use their phones to keep track of doctors’ appointments in a calendar, text message grandchildren, and store vital numbers that may be needed in an emergency,” said Christa Hill, Community Liaison at EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care. “The cell phone literacy workshops are part of EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care’s commitment to the community and to help all of Harlem live healthier lives.”

EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care is a warm and inviting place where all members of the community can come in and meet face-to-face with EmblemHealth professionals to ask questions, get reliable information and solve problems. In addition, EmblemHealth members can discuss specific health care needs to make the most of their insurance benefits and the health care system.

The next free workshop for Harlem seniors will be held on October 16 at EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care, 215 W 125th Street from noon–1:30 p.m. Residents can RSVP for the class by calling 1-866-469-0999.
