Manhattan Recreation’s Open House Week:Â
Take a dip in our pools, try out our fitness equipment, drop in on a sports program, visit our media labs, give our indoor tracks a go, or join one of our fitness classes. You’ll get to experience the amenities and offerings at Manhattan’s 11 recreation centers. Attendees must wear exercise clothing, bring a lock, and sign a waiver to participate.Â

From 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Meeting location at Morningside Park, Manhattan Avenue and West 110th StreetÂ
Celebrate Black History Month with NYC Parks! Join the Urban Park Rangers on a hike from Morningside Park through St. Nicholas Park and ending at the Northern tip of Jackie Robinson Park. Learn about the history, geology, and ecology of these beautiful parks.Â

Join us at Pelham Fritz Recreation Center for a night of artistic exploration. Celebrate the season of love with family and friends by painting a heartwarming masterpiece at this pre- Valentine’s Day event.Â

Join NYC Parks for a celebration of Black History Month with a FREE evening focusing on the vibrant fusion of culture, fashion, and art in Harlem! This event highlights the unique perspectives of local designers and artists while bringing the community together in a dynamic atmosphere. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy an inspiring showcase of creativity and talent while we honor our own contributions for Black History Month!Â

Come, dance, and have fun as we celebrate Black History Month from the viewpoint of our international guest artists. Our artists will share choreography and songs of Africa and the US and will also share from both a male and female perspective of what Black History month means. We will dance, hear great singing and even learn more about the significance and history of the music and choreography.Â

Jackie Robinson Park:Â Â Â Â
From 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.: Jackie Robinson Recreation Center, 85 Bradhurst AvenueÂ
Join Jackie Robinson Recreation Center for an afternoon of sports introduction for girls ages 6-16 years old. Participants can visit various stations to learn the basics of soccer, flag football, basketball, chess, and ping-pong. Each station will have a coach for instructional play.Â

From 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Jackie Robinson Recreation Center, 85 Bradhurst AvenueÂ
Join Jackie Robinson Recreation Center for a chess tournament. Participants will play chess with other kids and practice their strategy and moves all while learning from another and having fun.Â

Summer Lifeguard Hopefuls Dive into the Challenge of Qualifying Swim ExamsÂ
Lifeguard qualifying tests are held in all five boroughs through late February 2026. New lifeguards will earn $22 per hour with an additional $908 training payment. Â
All potential lifeguards must pass these qualifiers, which include a swim test and vision exam. Candidates who pass the qualifying test may enter lifeguard training classes to become certified to work at a beach or outdoor pool this summer. New Yorkers can register for a qualifying test here.Â
