The Tropicana Club
In 1946, After WW2, at a time when Nightclubs were synonymous with Glamour and the Academy award winning film "Marty" was shot at the Starland Ballroom in the Bronx. The Tropicana became the most glamorous and famous nightclub in the Bronx and probably the entire country, when in the TV series,Ricky Ricardo, played by Cuban- born ,
was a singer and bandleader at the Tropicana nightclub with many
scenes being shot there. The original Tropicana in the Bronx,
Inspired by the glitzy Tropicana Cabaret in Havana, and the
Tropicana in Las Vegas, was a Mecca for Latinos seeking first-rate dance bands, and floor shows. "Dancing under the stars at the Tropicana" became a infamous line for club which was famous for its Art deco interior and
Deco stars hanging over the entire club.
Now Located just Five blocks north from its Original Location at 915 Westchester Avenue is the new Tropicana at 1061 Home street off Westchester Ave. The New Tropicana pays Homage to it famous past
with a carefully recreated art Deco interior as well as the original
Deco stars. Once again New Yorkers can "Dance under the
Stars at the World Famous Tropicana in the Bronx" .
