3-Day Weekend Food, Music & Arts Festival Planned for Harlem, May 2015
Posted May 23, 2014
The announcement made yesterday at the legendary Red Rooster was a festive affair, with two of New York City's biggest political stars - Mayor Bill de Blasio and former President Bill Clinton – on hand to spread the news: Harlem will host a three-day food festival, Harlem EatUp! from May 15-17, 2015. Local restaurants and celebrity chefs will team up to offer visitors a range of Harlem's distinct flavors and culture.
“Harlem is a living, breathing example of what New York City should be,” enthused Mayor de Blasio. “There is so much here to cherish and celebrate. It's ever more special, creative and vibrant.”
Mr. de Blasio introduced President Clinton as a local hero. “He is one of the true, great blessings of Harlem,” de Blasio said. Before the neighborhood's latest resurgence, back in 2001, Clinton lit a spark by opening an office on 125th Street,. Now, he feels confident that HarlemEatUp! will light another one.
"This is a way of lifting this whole neighborhood in a way that I think will have permanent benefits." he said.
The three days of HarlemEatUp! events are expected to include culinary demonstrations, panel discussions, appearances by locally and nationally known food celebrities, and a Sunday afternoon street fair.
