SoHarlem is proud to present acclaimed costume designer Paul Tazewell in conversation with Harriette Cole. Tazewell’s legendary screen designs include the Oscar-winning costumes for Wicked—which also earned him BAFTA and CDG awards—as well as West Side Story and The Wiz Live! On Broadway, his groundbreaking work on Hamilton, Death Becomes Her, and Suffs has earned him multiple Tony Awards and nominations. His celebrated portfolio also extends to prestigious international opera and ballet productions. Though celebrated for his achievements in costume, Tazewell’s creative practice defies category. His current work spans product design, interiors, publishing, and architecture —a multidisciplinary approach grounded in storytelling and the artisan’s hand. With upcoming projects across fashion, home, and media, he continues to reimagine what it means to design with intention in the digital age.

Harriette Cole is a bestselling author, syndicated advice columnist, speaker, and veteran media trainer. Her distinguished editorial career includes leadership roles as Editor-in-Chief of Ebony and Fashion Editor at Essence. Founder of Harriette Cole Media, Inc., she works on two sides of storytelling, teaching people how to tell their stories and telling stories of triumph about others. She has advised major brands and talent across entertainment and corporate sectors, including Spotify, AARP, and Def Jam. She is the founder of Dreamleapers, an educational platform featuring coaching, workshops, a podcast, and weekly meditation programs. Cole is an adjunct professor at F.I.T. And she serves on the board of the international charity PRASAD. A proud Howard alumna, Cole is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a wife and a mother of a recent college graduate.
