Followed by a Q&A with director Jayan Cherian
Twelve-year-old Jayaram Siddi is haunted by the spirit of his late grandfather. As he begins to lose his grip on reality, his family turns to ancestral rituals and the pulsating rhythms of Dammam music to restore his balance and heal intergenerational wounds.
The ancestral roots of the Siddis trace back to the Bantu peoples of Southeast Africa, brought to the Indian subcontinent as slaves by Portuguese traders. Despite centuries of marginalization, the Siddis have preserved a powerful cultural identity through their unique devotional music — a living expression of resilience, faith, and survival.
A visually stunning and spiritually resonant work, Rhythm of Dammam reveals a rarely seen community at the crossroads of African and Indian heritage, where music becomes both resistance and rebirth.
