MoonLab 42 is a satellite of a family-owned concept store 42 from Tbilisi, Georgia, run by Ruso Margishvili and John Holden, a Georgian-American couple living in Harlem, NYC. They showcase and sell affordable artwork, objects, and home goods made by different artists. The owners created the shop with three goals: to provide a platform for emerging artists; to make artwork accessible to the wider community; and to celebrate the local culture and the rich heritage of Ruso’s home in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The original store 42 was owned by Ruso’s family in Tbilisi and was named after the number of the building it occupied. Unfortunately, 42 had a short life due to the pandemic and closed down with the first lockdown. In October 2020, Ruso and John decided to revive the family’s concept store in NYC. When many of their friends were unable to exhibit their works at art fairs and shows, Ruso and John gathered their pieces, added works from themselves and their families, and started a weekend pop-up at a local coffee shop in Harlem.
