Welcome to Fall at HSA!
Posted September 21, 2020 · Eric Pryor, President, HSA
This has been a year unlike any other. None of us expected to be in the midst of these circumstances at the start of the school year, yet here we are. For the health and safety of all in our community, we have decided to hold all of our classes and programs virtually this fall. We’re excited about what we have to offer, and we hope you will join us!
We know our students have been hit hard over the last few months by our unfortunate socially isolated new normal. The number one thing we have heard is clear: students miss being able to see their friends.
HSA is, above all else, a community. We are still here. This fall, we are working creatively to ensure our virtual programming is engaging, affirming, and collaborative by:
- Maintaining small class sizes
- Introducing culturally relevant material
- Adapting class structures and curriculum for distance learning
- Making real-time revisions tailored to student feedback and experiences
Science shows that arts education can address some of the challenges children are facing. Arts activities promote growth in positive social skills including self-confidence, self-control, conflict resolution, collaboration, empathy and social tolerance.
Our Fall semester begins on Saturday September 26. We have so much to look forward to in the weeks ahead. I would encourage you to consider having your child try something new this Fall. If he or she loves to dance, why not try a music class as well? If they are taking private lessons, consider adding a group class for socialization.
During the pandemic, we have seen an uptick in our Private Lesson enrollment and we think we know why. A virtual private lesson is an opportunity for a one-on-one experience well-suited to distance learning. We offer private lessons for all ages in Music, Dance, Theater, and Art & Design.
Private lessons offer the following benefits:
- Improved listening skills
- Self-Discipline
- Increased attention span
- Lessons in patience, tenacity, and perseverance
- Personal satisfaction when progress is made

I hope you will join us for Fall classes. We look forward to working with you in partnership to ensure that each child is able to thrive. Our faculty and staff look forward to welcoming you back soon.
With my very best wishes for a successful year.
