The Harlem Chamber Players, Inc. (THCP), an arts non-profit organization dedicated to promoting diversity and arts inclusion in classical music, will present its 17th Annual Black History Month Celebration on February 13, 2025 at 6:30 PM at Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, located at 515 Malcolm X Boulevard.
This concert will feature guest artists cellist-composer Akua Dixon and soprano Candice Hoyes as well as members of The Harlem Chamber Players, violinists Ashley Horne and Claire Chan, violist William Frampton, cellist Wayne Smith, double bassist Anthony Morris, pianist Jas Ogiste, with a performance by Terrance McKnight who will also host the event. This concert is free and open to the public. RSVP is required and will be available for sign up one month prior to the concert.
The program for this concert includes Zora’s Moon for soprano and string quartet by Candice Hoyes, Chausson’s Chanson perpetuelle, Op. 37 for soprano, piano, and string quartet, as well as several works by Akua Dixon including the New York premiere of We The People for string quartet, Afrika! Afrika! for solo cello and string quartet, and “Uncross My Soul” from Dixon’s opera Marie Laveau.
